Starting a Dialogue

Thanks to all who have posted comments and to those who have read the entries on the Cookie Table. I asked for your suggestions and Tami McConkey came up with the following,

"A few Sundays ago, Pastor Walt suggested that when local politicians (or their supporters) come to our doors, we should ask a question that is important to us and "dialog" with the campaigner. What questions would you ask? What would you like to dialog more about in your church or your community?"

So, what do you think?

An Environmentally Sustainable Church?

If this is your first time on a blog, please see the first posting below.
Many members of the staff and congregation of LHUMC have been discussing ways that our church can be more environmentally friendly - if not carbon-neutral. The Trustees have taken steps toward making our property eco-conscious by doing such things as putting in new windows to save energy and giving a critical look at our landscaping. In addition to recycling paper and cardboard, very soon we will have a service that recycles cans, bottles and plastics. However, we still have a long way to go. Each year we do more to harm than help the environment, thereby creating a "carbon footprint." To learn more about these footprints, visit http://www.zerocarbonfootprint.co.uk/. For our first topic on this blog, please share your thoughts on what LHUMC should or shouldn't do to be more environmentally friendly. Please remember to put your name on your response.

Welcome to the blog!

Welcome to the Cookie Table, a blog of Lake Harriet United Methodist Church, www.lakeharrietumc.org

For those unfamiliar with blogs, here's a definition from www.wikipedia.com

A blog (an abridgment of the term web log) is a
website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal
online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.

The underlined and colored texts above are links. You may click on them and they will take you to another website pertaining to that particular topic.

In the coming months, The Cookie Table blog will be featuring a variety of topics for the members and friends of LHUMC. Once a topic is posted, please respond by clicking the underlined link marked "comments" to add your own response. Because this blog is open to everyone worldwide, I will be screening all of the responses after you submit them. Once I have okayed the content, I will allow the website to post your comments. Please note that this may take a day or two. Also, please remember to sign your name to your comment. Anonymous comments will be discarded.
If you would like to submit an idea for a topic, please email or call Pastor Tyler or the church office.
I hope you enjoy this new tool for our church and community.
-Tyler
